Jim/Bill Burridge WO RAF catering

I wonder if anyone remembers my dad, Bill/Jim Burridge. He was on CI around 1958 as catering Warrant Officer. Did a lot of fishing.

Hi Georgina,

Though I arrived on Christmas Island at the end of October 1959 I did not know a WO Jim, Bill Burridge in the Catering at Main Camp or at London Port Camp.  I used to have to drive my lorry and go to the Kitchens with the Gilbertese fellows to pick up and take away any waste from cooking or after meal times.  At other times I would have to go to the food store and pick up items and deliver to the Cook Houses or the Sergeant or Officers Mess.  In this I am unable to help.  You will see me with the tipper lorry with the Gilbertese at the back of Main Camp Cookhouse and again one Sunday morning up at London Port Gilbertese Village, with Dave Mitchell in the front and at the back the Gilbertese Fellows.  Look in the Picture Galleries Chris Fish(102)  102 is the number of pictures in my gallery.  To view them place the mouse pointer over the name, the word will go RED and click on it and you will get a group of pictures.  Click on one and then you will get above the picture Next, Previous or Last.  Again place mouse pointer on the faded word it will turn RED and Click and you will progress.

I came to live here in Norfolk when I came out of the Royal Air Force.  After a few years came and worked in industry in Norwich.  After a few years a young fellow by the name of Barry Burridge came to work at the same place and shortly as I remember his father and I am sure I have the name right Bill came to work there.  I got on well with Barry as he used to drive on of the forklift trucks and I worked in the engineering department but would and could see Barry when we were on the same as it eventually came.  brill worked over another section of the factory so did not see him so much.  Bill was a tall man, well built with fair to brown hair.  Barry was shorter and like myself well built.  I believe that Bill passed on quite a few years ago.  I have not seen Barry since leaving the company through the job (not me) going redundant.  Bill and Barry live about ten miles outside of Norwich.

It would be a coincidence if these fellows turned out to be relatives of yours and I did not know that Bill had been to Christmas Island.

Regards Chris Fish.
