Posting to Christmas Island.

This is page one, of the  five pages of notes given to me, on notice, that I had been given an overseas posting.  NOTES FOR THE GUIDANCE OF AIRMEN POSTED TO R.A.F. STATION CHRISTMAS ISLAND.

My Dear late father

Hi my name is Avril Jones (nee) Johnson, and at present I live in France. I am trying to locate anyone who may have served alongside, or perhaps remembers my late father Alan (Johnny) Johnson. He was at that time with the Fire section on clean up duty, and according to his RAF service files, witnessed 4 detonations. He sadly passed away in 1988 aged 56 years. Leaving behind not only my mother and elder brother,( who was born prior to Christmas Island posting), but myself, my younger brother and younger sister, all concieved after.

Route to Christmas Island?

My name is Paul Wren. My father, Dennis (I registered his name in case anyone recognises it), was in the RAF and posted to Christmas Island as part of the RAF crash crew driving the crash tenders. He witnessed at least one of the tests while he was there.

Trying to find out which Grapple test my father was at

Hello,

My father James Colligan was in RAF squadron 206 and witnessed a Grapple explosion on Xmas Island. I throught it was Grapple X he was at (8th Nov 1957) but in another forum he had posted and said he was in Xmas Island late 1956 and early 1957 for six months. He may have been mistaken. I can't ask him the details because he died on Feb 8th 2004 from a brain tumour from Cancer of Unknown Primary.

I would love to know if:

1 Anyone knew my father (what are your recollections?)

2. Did 206 squadron witness only one or more than one test (which ones)?

Ground Markers for the "Megaton Bombing Circuit"...

.

Hello everybody!

I'm presently spending quite a bit of time on Christmas, and looking around the place for historical stuff.

I recently relocated the overgrown "Northern Marker" and its "cat-cut" access (and have leads on finding the "Southern Marker" next -the "Target Indicator" being well known here) and am wondering if anybody could post anecdotes and pix of the building of these markers?

See page 119 of the Hubbard book.

Cheers

Christian
